BREAKING NEWS: 249 Reported Locations of Boy Scouts of America Child Sex Abuse

Abused in Scouting’s clients reported a massive total of 249 locations where they claim to have been sexually abused as a minor by a member of the Boy Scouts of America. Abusedinscouting.com recently revealed the shocking data to the public, encouraging other survivors of BSA sex abuse to come forward if they see their troop/camp listed or want to report their own story.

“When you think about the scope of this abuse, it’s so heart-wrenching. It covers the country,” said Andrew Van Arsdale, one of the lawyers working on behalf of AIS to fight for justice for survivors of BSA abuse.

The city, troop number, and/or camp name associated with each claim is provided within Abused in Scouting’s list. Sometimes cities are listed multiple times, indicating multiple instances of abuse within different camps or troops. The Los Angeles Times found over 12,000 victims of Boy Scout sex assault after investigating over a thousand secret files held by the Boy Scouts of America. These files, dubbed “the Perversion Files”, recorded the internally reported names of alleged molesters within the Boy Scouts of America, the records going back to 1919. However, in most of the instances investigated by the LA Times, Scouting officials did not report the allegations to the police, simply urging offenders to quietly resign. With the likelihood of many accounts of child sex abuse being unreported or unrecorded, thousands of instances of child sex abuse within the BSA could be unaccounted for.
