Scouting Abuse Survivors Speak Out and Fight Back Against BSA

The Today show on NBC took an interest in Abused In Scouting and interviewed Tim Kosnoff along with two clients to discuss the impact that abuse can have on an individual. The Boy Scouts have previously disclosed evidence of over 13,000 abusers in its ranks, but new evidence may point to tens of thousands more abusers.

How Could This Have Happened?

The Boy Scouts of America files show a pattern of abuse by a certain group of men. According to the L.A. Times, at least 47% of the leaders of this organization who were added to the Perversion Files (and most of the time covered up) were single. Close to 50% of them also did not have a child in any program. The case files show that nearly all the cases arose from situations in which the troop leaders were alone with the boys, a practice the Boy Scouts of America finally officially prohibited in 1987 - much too late for many of the victims.

These sexual predators took advantage of the innocence of children and/or enticed them with illegal activities. In the Boy Scouts of America files, hundreds show Scout leaders allowed boys to drink alcohol, drive cars, or look at pornography. As the trust continued to build, Scout leaders would often gradually test physical boundaries during skinny dipping, group showers, sleepovers and one-on-one activities.

This is not your fault. If you were abused by a leader of the Boy Scouts, you are an innocent victim. These men preyed on victims, and most sexual abusers may have abused as many as 100 children over their lifetimes. It’s time to send the Boy Scouts a message - and the way to do that is through contacting the lawyers at Abused in Scouting today. We will fight for your rights and make sure that the Boy Scouts and other organizations know that this behavior will not be tolerated ever again. You deserve to tell your story and  you have earned the right to significant compensation. We cannot rewind the clock, but we can make the organization responsible to pay in the only way available in the legal system; money damages for the victims.

A Reckoning For The Boy Scouts Of America And Its History Of Sexual Abuse

Sexual abuse allegations continue to pile up against the Boy Scouts of America as changes to statutes of limitations pave the way for future lawsuits. Abused in Scouting Attorney Tim Kosnoff joined Diane Rehm to explain why hundreds have contacted him in recent months to report the abuse, and what he wants to see done to hold the Boy Scouts accountable.

Boy Scout Leader Sexual Abuse Dismissal Letter

“We are making no accusations and will not release this information to anyone, so our action in no way will affect your standing in the community.”

Why didn’t the Boy Scouts of America do anything to protect these innocent children? The leaders of the organization reportedly operated in secrecy. They allegedly created a system to maintain confidential files of all of these abusers and did everything to ensure such information never was discovered. The Boy Scouts dealt with these predators so much that the organization allegedly created a form letter to send to the thousands of leaders being dismissed over abuse allegations. The form letter stated, “We are making no accusations and will not release this information to anyone, so our action in no way will affect your standing in the community.” This ensured that predators could continue their patterns of abuse to innocent victims in communities all over this Country.

We are lawyers fighting on behalf of the victims of sexual abuse. The Boy Scouts of America knew of these atrocities, and continued to allow this abuse to continue. You do not have to suffer in silence any longer, contact us right now to learn how we have helped other victims fight for justice against the Boy Scouts, the very organization that also put you in harms way.
